2 More Classic Trojan Albums On CD Out 8th September

Image titleOur partners at Cherry Red have announced the release of 2 more classic Trojan albums on CD, which will see release on the company’s Doctor Bird subsidiary on 8th September.

Expanded versions of the Sonia Pottinger-produced Dancing Down Orange Street and the Kingstonians‘ boss reggae classic ‘Singer Man’ are now both available for pre-order on the Cherry Redwebsite and will be available from all good music retailers from the official day of their release.

Also available for pre-order are the initial two Doctor Bird titles,‘No More Heartaches/What Am I To Do’ and Marcia Griffiths‘Naturally/Steppin”, both of which officially see release on Friday 11th August.

THE KINGSTONIANS ‘SINGER MAN’ (DOCTOR BIRD, DBCD-003)

During the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Kingstonians peppered Jamaica’s singles charts on a regular basis, with their recordings for producer Derrick Harriott proving particularly successful.

Their popularity prompted the producer to release what proved to be the vocal trio’s only album, ‘Sufferer’, which collected a dozen of their best-known works from the preceding two years.

One of the most sought-after boss reggae LPs ever to see issue, the album finally receives the respect it has long since been due, with the original 12 tracks bolstered by an equal number of bonus recordings; the result being the first definitive anthology of the Kingstonians‘ works for Harriott’s widely revered Crystal Records.

Featuring a number of tracks new to CD and 8 highly sought-after instrumental versions, ‘Singer Man’ is a must for all serious fans of vintage Jamaican sounds.

VARIOUS ‘DANCING DOWN ORANGE STREET’ (DOCTOR BIRD, DBCD-004)

Originally released by Trojan early in 1969, ‘Dancing Down Orange Street’ is today widely regarded as one of the finest and most sought after albums from the classic ‘boss reggae’ era.

The LP, showcasing a dozen of the most popular late rock steady and early reggae productions of leading Jamaican producer, Sonia Pottinger, is presented here in its entirety for the first time on CD, with the original selection bolstered by a further 13 bonus tracks from the period.
