In the late Sixties, the role of the DJ was transformed from dancehall celebrities to major recording stars.

Records by pioneers such as King Stit, Count Matchuki and U Roy forever changed the sound of Reggae and opened the way for a host of other toasters and by the early Seventies, the DJ sound had become an integral part of the Reggae scene.

The popularity DJ-based recordings was since continued to the present day, with its influence apparent in various styles of music, from Ragga stars to Hip Hop.

This 2 CD collection highlights the development of toasting on disc from the Sixties to the Eighties, including countless Jamaican hits performed by every significant DJ of note from the period.
