Trojan Presents Rock Steady
The successor to Ska, Rock Steady first came into being during the long hot summer of 1966 and reigned supreme in Jamaica for two glorious years before finally being superseded by Reggae.
Without doubt the most soulful era of Jamaican music, the Rock Steady era witnessed the rapid rise in the importance of vocalists whose talents could finally be delivered without the constraints previously imposed by the rapid tempo of Ska.
By 1968, the sound had run its course, yet many of the rhythms created over the preceding two years were to provide the backbone for islands music industry for many years to come.
This 2CD set highlights many of the biggest hits from the golden age of Rock Steady years, with every track featured a major Jamaican hit from the period.
