A Boss Record Store Day

Record Store Day on 22nd April saw the release of two limited edition vinyl titles for the more discerning fan of vintage Jamaican reggae.

The first of these was a special pressing of Trojan’s seminal skinhead long-player from 1969, while the second is a 7″ single comprising two long lost boss reggae gems from the vaults of Treasure Isle Records.

Details of both releases, which were available from all good independent record shops on Record Store Day, are as follows:


Tighten Up Volume 2 – special edition (TBL1004X)

Following its release in the summer of 1969, ‘Tighten Up Volume 2’ became the must-have collection for all self-respecting UK fans of the new reggae sound emerging from Jamaica.

Comprising the a dozen of the hottest boss reggae tracks of all time, including the UK hit singles ‘Long Shot Kick The Bucket’ and ‘Return Of Django’, the LP has acquired a cult status over the years, remaining one of the label’s most in-demand collections for almost half a century.

This special Record Store Day pressing comes presented in a cutout sleeve, housing a stunning vinyl picture disc depicting  Trojan’s iconic label on one side and the classic sleeve design and on the other.

Long since regarded as one of the most significant long players in Jamaican music history, this special collector’s edition both sounds and looks the business.

Trojan’s 7″ range is revived in spectacular fashion with this limited edition Record Store Day special, featuring two previously unreleased boss reggae tracks direct from the vaults of Duke Reid‘s legendary Treasure Isle label.

Housed in Trojan’s much-loved iconic Hot Shot picture sleeve, the record comprises a superb vocal from the late great Hopeton Lewis on and top-side, with a driving instrumental on the flip, courtesy of ace trombonist Vincent Gordon backed by Tommy McCook‘s revered Supersonics band.
