Augustus Pablo

After first making his first mark as a session pianist in the late sixties, Horace Swaby assumed the pseudonym of Augustus Pablo and began experimenting with the then unfashionable melodica. His groundbreaking recordings for Herman Chin-Loy in 1971 resulted in his elevation to star status in Jamaica, with local producers clamouring to utilise his inimitable playing skills.

Over the next few years, Pablo recorded a slew of popular singles for a number of leading operators as well as launching his own hugely successful Rockers label, which continued to provide the main showcase for his talents up until his untimely death on 18 May 1999.
