Duke Reid

OK, so we know that we’ve already paid tribute to legendary music maker, Duke Reid this year, but given he was born 102 years ago on 21st July, and the fact we happen to have a tasty 4CD box setlined up for release at the end of next week, we thought it only right he should be this week’s Trojan Artist Of The Month.

For those as yet unfamilar with the Duke and his work, from the late fifties through to the early seventies, he produced some of the finest and most influential ska, rock steady and reggae recordings of their day.

Predominently produced at his famed Treasure Isle recording studio in Bond Street, Kingston, his recordings set the standard for others to follow, with only Coxson Dodd and Leslie Kong able to sustain serious challenges to his dominance throughout this period.

To find out more about the man behind the first Trojan record label, while enjoying 100 of the most signficant productions, check out the newly posted bio and spoitify playlist that can be found in the Artists section of this website. Simply click here!
