Joe Gibbs

To mark the sad passing of Joe Gibbs on 22nd of February 2008, the celebrated producer is this week’s Trojan Artist of the Week.

After embarking on a  career as a record producer in 1966, Gibbs released some of the most popular and influential recordings  in Jamaican music history, with his roster of artists including, at various times, the Pioneers, Peter Tosh, the Heptones, Gregory Isaacs, Augustus Pablo and Dennis Brown.

His fascinating career, from electrical repairman to leading record producer and studio owner is related in a new bio available on this site. Featured alongside the piece is a newly curated playlist, highlighting 40 of his greatest recordings from the rock steady era through to the early 1980s.
