Long Shot
Formed in Kingston the early sixties, the Pioneers cut a series of popular rock steady sides for Joe Gibbs, prior to joining the roster of Chinese-Jamaicanproducer Leslie Kong.
Soon after, the trio of trio of Sydney Crooks, Jackie Robinson and George Agard made their mark globally with Long Shot Kick De Bucket, an original song that relatedthe demise of to a celebrated racing horse, which reached number 21 in UK Pop charts the autumn of 1969.
In the wake of this success came the hugely popular ‘Long Shot’ album, which gathered a dozen of their most recent recordings for Kong, including of course their recent UK hit.
Now available in CD form, the LP highlights the unique style that resulted to the Pioneers becoming one of Jamaica‘s most popular singing groups and that brought them international success in the late sixcties and early seventies.
