Robbie Shakespeare
Bass supremo, Robbie Shakespeare, half of Jamaica’s best-known rhythm section of all time, Sly & Robbie celebrates his 63rd birthday on 27th September 2016.
Over the past four decades Robbie and his drumming partner have been involved in the creation of around 200,000 recordings, many of which are now widely regarded as classics.
Affectionately dubbed the Rhythm Twins, the duo have always displayed an eagerness to push the boundaries of reggae beyond its perceived limits, and continue to influence the music scene today, both in their native Jamaica and overseas – indeed, they are perhaps best known outside the Caribbean for their collaborations with a number of high-profile mainstream pop and rock acts.
This Trojan Tuesday, we celebrate the career of this hugely influential musician with an updated bio and playlist featuring some of his finest works with long-term associate, Sly Dunbar.
