The Mighty Pioneers
One of the most succesful Jamaican acts of all time, the Pioneers exploded onto the international music scene on 18th October 1969 when their boss reggae classic, ‘Long Shot Kick De Bucket’ made the UK pop chart.
Comprising George Agard, Jackie Robinson andSydney Crooks, the group subsequently moved to Britain and enjoyed further mainstream chart action with ‘Let Your Yeah Be Yeah’ and ‘Give And Take’.
Aside from their major UK hits, the trio also recorded numerous other reggae classics, most notably the original versions of ‘Starvation’ and ‘Time Hard’, with Trojan releasing 9 LP collections of their work between 1968 and 1978.
To mark the anniversary of the group’s breakthrough hit, the Pioneers are this week’s Trojan Artist of the Week, with a new bio and playlist posted in the Artists section on this site.
